the first piece

Scrap quilting has become quite the most popular
'New Year' thing.
Out with the old and in with the new?
There's no prettier block for using up your scraps than the Dresden.
This one is from Material Obsession.
Yes I am the last person on earth to actually own a copy!
The lovely ladies are also bloggers and can be found
I must admit that I haven't used scraps,
this was a test piece really.
I think it's good idea to try out patterns and colours
before you take the plunge.
I'm not sure about this colourway for 2013?
I'm thinking of something more sophisticated...
 Whilst we're on the subject
just look what the very sophisticated Mary sent me for Christmas!
The loveliest notepad!!!!!!!
The cutest purse for my pennies.
And this totally lush tea towel.
Mary you know me so well
thank you x
So that's applique ticked off my to do list!
I'm off to try out some rag rugging,
another terrific way of using up your
big scraps!!

a word from my sponsors

Being an independent quilter I don't rely on sponsor's*
for my fabrics.
However I do have my own fabric sponsors
they are my family and friends.
Last week was my birthday week
and it was overflowing with fabric.
The first was a luscious bundle across the pond from my pal Mary
I'm sure you have all met her by now,
but if not go take a look,
she is a true inspiration.
Thank you Mary!!
Another bloggy friend who is never empty handed
gave me these two above.
Fabric is fabric,
I don't care if they've had a past life,
I can give them new lives.
The turquoise has already been chopped!
The very pretty rose floral is a huge pair of  rescued curtains
courtesy of my Mother in law.
I thought they would make great outdoor cushions or
hang them as they are!!
That was until I found this beauty.
£5 from a charity shop!
I think it's vintage...it's called anemone from fothergay.
There is at least 5 metres of  it.
I think it would make an awesome door curtain for our new extension,
just don't tell the old man!
How lucky am I?
I think I shall make a new resolution
that my birthday week will always
contain fabric in some form or other.

*ps I'm not immune to the idea of a fabric sponsor,
I'll do anything for fabric!

random thursday

Three seemingly random pictures.
Truth be told I'm channelling my inner 'Molly Flanders Style'
a phrase coined by a follower in my last post.
The first is my sewing chair...and yesterday I had a thought that my shoulder pain
could be linked to bad posture, due to a bad sewing position.
I do feel like the princess and the pea, but it feels better.
The second is a thrifty 10 pence find on my way home from the osteopath.
Who needs Anthropologie!
And the last is the wonderful jewel colours of the much loved perle cottons.
Mary I hope this cheered your day a little..

Edited
pickledish wall quilt...you guessed it a Molly Flanders original!
