shoofly quilt reveal

Amidst the chaos of the dust and the workmen
I have managed somehow to finish my shoofly...
..on time as well.
This quilt was always destined for my friend Karen.
Whose 40th birthday was on Sunday.
Anyone who knows her will know that she is crazy about butterflies,
hence forth I give you
'Madame Butterfly'

The fabrics are a mix of old and new,
with a splash of butterfly.
My first choice of backing and quilting did not go so well.
The decision to unpick was made
and a manic dash into town thankfully produced the new backing
 and some matching bonus binding
all in one package.
(regards TKMaxx and Kirstie Allsopp bedding)
I fell back on some fmq
as my straight lines were causing me a headache.
Loopy quilting is so much fun..and I only caught the backing in once!
So there we are one very special kingsize quilt,
with an added subliminal message quilted in.

All wrapped up and ready to go!
ps. she loved it.
pps. the workmen have finished, just the decorating to do now!

doing this now...

I've come to the conclusion that hand sewing everyday gives me
 my bad shoulder.
So today I'm sewing half square triangles on my machine.
(can I assume that the quilters out there know what I mean?)
The only time the iron comes out in this household is when I'm piecing,
there's nothing like pressing open freshly sewn seams,
that's something I miss when I'm English paper piecing.
This is where the magic happens!
I am loving making blocks for the shoo-fly quilt,
sewing a little then pressing a little...
Sorry about the shameless use of background goodies,
I'm feeling a bit of a bore right now?

ps.
The 'doing this now' has been ripped from the
new UK Very Important People show.
Gotta love poor Natalie Cassidys send up,
 I'm loving this now!!

purple haze

Is it me or has it rained every day since I dug the pond?
The only upside I can think to this misery is the fact that
I have had a cold (since my titanic night out),
and at least the water butt is full again.
So I've been in a funk to put it mildly!
What to do when the funk strikes?
Start a new quilt!!
Oh and I do work with my legs uncrossed sometimes,
if you didnt read my last post,
let me make it clear that I mean I'm using my sewing machine!
This biennial is honesty or lunaria
grown from seed last year.
It has lovely papery seed disks after flowering.
I need to finish this one for September for my best friends 40th.
I think the pattern is a take on the shoo fly block and it's going to be KINGSIZE!!
I should really be cutting fabric so if you dont mind I'll sign off...
