*candy girl..

you are my world!
check out that phat binding!
When I heard that Ellison Lane Quilts were having a summer inspired quilt contest,
I became like a women possessed
I hoped that I might have my hexagon quilt finished in time to enter.
Whats more summery than cotton candy stripes blowing in the breeze,
even if it is another grey day!
It's english paper pieced with vintage sheets,
and it's incredibly soft.
The backing is a candy striped sheet which I've had in my stash
for a few years, just waiting for the right project.
I made another attempt at fmq,
I kept things loose to retain the squishy factor.
I went for the meandering loops for added whimsy
(don't you love that word!)
I also wanted to try out a wider binding for a change,
we all enjoy the binding part..now there's just more to love!
This is my big 2 inch hexagon piece and love qal,
if you would like to give it ago join in here
or if you would like to see my progress clicky  here
There are at least 200 hexagons
which make roughly a 60 inch square.
I'm bummed out that we have no sun, the colours really do sing in the sunshine.
I promise if the sun makes a return I shall rush out and take some sunnier snaps
until then
I hope this has brought a little sunshine to your world.
Don't forget to hop along to Ellison Lane Quilts for some more eye candy!!

*it's oh so quiet...

 it's oh so still
 you're all alone
 and so peaceful until...
the workmen move in and tear up the patio!
Yep things in the selfsewn household are a changing.
but shhhh we will keep things quiet for now
whilst I hide under a quilt or two.
ps. you may have noticed that I have a new quilt in the pile,
I'm just waiting for the perfect day to take some pics
this might take some time....

bring me sunshine...

er-hmm quilting over...let the binding begin!
I'm continuing the theme of vintage sheets for the binding,
one bonus is the extra wide fabric you get from bedding.
I am going for a wider than normal binding,
to produce a more substantial edge.
It is a prerequisite to adjust ones attire accordingly!

pieced and loved

Okay so enough of the glummy bears.
I've quite clearly got a fully pieced quilt top on my hands!

Enough?
This is my piece and love quilt that was supposed to be for my dining room table.
As the creator I think I deserve the right to change my mind,
especially when patchwork is screaming to be quilted.
I'm going for more fmq as it's in tune with the whimsical feel of this project.
Also I've just seen Jeni's lovely vintage sheet prism quilt
found here at in color order
So shes all basted and ready to go,
snug as bug!

addicted to piece and love

you can't sleep, you can't eat
there's no doubt, you're in deep
you're throat is tight, you can't breathe
another piece is all you need
whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff,  oh yeah
it's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
you know you're gonna have to face it
you're addicted to love.

Thankyou Robert Palmer for your words,
I think they sum up the past couple of weeks.
Today however I'm not actually sewing
as I have a migraine and I'm posting from my bed.
Yet I'm still wanting to share my addiction.
Am I the only one who writes blog posts in their head....with a migraine?
Anyways I think Mr Palmer hit the nail on the head with his lyrics.
So if you dont mind I shall replace the wet flannel over my face and stop
editing this post in my head..
ps.
so sorry if you end up singing addicted to love all day
I can think of worse songs!

piece and love progress

Unable to garden due to a torrential April
I have been steaming ahead with my latest epp project.
It's taken on a life of it's own,
and the more I sew the more I need to sew?
Many hours of crossed legs have passed and many will follow!
If you would like to join or follow, pop over here for more inspiration.
This is an easy going challenge, just keep the hexagons BIG.

Peace out xx

spring clean...

that was the intention..I even put my pinny on..
but I'm an easily distracted kind of girl..
large hexagons give such a speedy satisfaction
oo-err missus
okay back to it..spring cleaning the garden that is!
If you are wanting to do a spot of paper piecing then why not join my flickr group
to show and share?
It's a fun carefree project...
make whatever you like..just make it jumbo!

piece and love hexathon

Thanks for the love my friends.
My self esteem ebbs and flows...
your nice comments keep me buoyant.
I've been feeling so uplifted with all this sunshine,
I want to bottle it up in a cheerful patchwork project.
This is a non quilt project ie. it can be a tablecloth, curtains or whatever needs a splash of patchwork!
I know though... not another hex-a-long right?
After the success of the rose star block party
(which is still going strong)
I wanted to keep things simple, so more people might be snared enticed!
Plus these hexagons are biggies man!
(see the normal sized hexagons on the right)
I've been wanting to make a pretty table cloth
ever since I displayed my quilt on the dining room table last year.
This was my next to do project,
so why not make it a friendly group of piece and love.
The idea is to keep this as carefree as possible.
You will not need
wadding
designer fabrics
(but if you have a stash use it!)
binding

You will need
some vintage/old bedding/old fabrics
(try charity/thrift shops)
paper hexagons
(mine are 2" each side)
a backing fabric
a table to cover
elbow grease
and
some captured moments in your week..
..be it, sat on a train, in your lunch break or in the park.
I'd love to see your progress,
if you would like to join in or just follow
pop over here

I will be posting the basic technique of paper piecing again next week...
as if you don't already know!!!
