okay so I truly wasn't going to post today,
but here I am anyway!
I have basted my flowering snowball,
after a eureka moment of resourcing the backing from a thrifted sheet
(from my stash!!)
I began this quilt as a challenge to paper piece curves,
and to hand quilt...
This quilt is shouting St Ives, Cornwall and troika pottery to me.
I'm thinking of machine quilting and hand stitching.
Possibly machine one circle in the grey area
and hand quilting in turquoise the contours?
What would you do?
I have no idea, I'm rubbish at deciding how to quilt my projects, so there is no way I could suggest anything to you, but I have to say, I absolutely adore this and I'm sure what ever you decide to do will be stunning.

ReplyDeleteI love the idea of machine and hand quilting! I like how machining first helps anchor everything first. I love the colours of your thread also. Troika pottery is cool! I would love to see how you interpret that in your quilting! It's a lovely quilt!

ReplyDeleteOooh! Im excited to see this finished! How about instead of a circle, a square on point/diamond in the middle of the greys, and then a smaller square, on point, around the corner stones? Just an idea... x

ReplyDeleteOh Clare...I love it! It is so tranquil.... peaceful. I think your idea of the machine stitching a large circle and then the perle cotton is fantastic. I machined circles on a Cog and Wheel quilt and used a tissue paper on top of the quilt with my design....I stitched right through the tissue paper. It came out very well. Your quilt is just perfect :)

I'm seeing circles in the grey as you say then circles round your turquoise corner stones...it loves so serene and would be so peaceful to sleep under. Brilliant!

I just want to say I's so in love with this beauty! Don't have any good input on the quilting, except that I love some big stitch hand-quilting (Molly Flanders style...)
